Shop Till You Drop!

Who says that there's no decent vintage stuff at car boots and jumble sales these days? Not me, that's for sure! I bought so much today that I'm going to have to blog about it in installments to save you from getting bored.

As soon as I'd paid my 20p and gone inside the church hall I spotted some sparkly stuff glinting at me from the table. As usual I grabbed everything, paid and stuffed it all in my bin bag, not examining anything until I got home.

The first item turned out to be this 1970's era maxi dress by Spinney.

I nearly died on the spot when I discovered all that lovely lurex was a seventies-tastic catsuit. It's handmade and just fabulous. I can't wait to wear this, in fact I love it so much I might never take it off.

At first I thought these sequinned pants were those ubiquitous high street ones that were all the rage a couple of years ago, but no, they're vintage, by 1970's British label, Ann Green and silk-lined. The hand-made crochet shawl was another discovery.

As everything was 25p an item that's a decent haul for a quid.

The boot sale was also quite good. Within seconds of arriving we bumped into an old mate who tipped us off about cheap India flights and a boutique festival we hadn't heard about.

This English-made 1970's fake fur coat by Quelrayn was £2. I've got rather a lot of fake fur coats but most are a bit on the big side so they're out and this one's a keeper.

This Caraselle Headliner scarf is still in it's original 1960's packaging. You can wear it in a variety of ways and has a plastic beehive protecting band that slots inside to prevent your big hair getting squished. £1 well spent, one hates ruining one's updo.

I paid 50p for this March 7th, 1970 issue of Woman's Realm which came in a souvenir carrier bag and originally had two complimentary Tetley tea bags free inside (but were sadly missing). You could send off for this dressmaking pattern for 2 shillings (post paid).

A 1955 Falks of Mayfair travel iron which appears to have never been used. There's even an Indian adaptor so maybe it'll come with us next time we go. The nice seller wanted a £1 "because it was old".

Believe it not this is the second pair of Salvatore Ferragamo shoes I've picked up this month. The first pair are 1940s and way too small for my huge hooves. This pair of patent heeled loafers fit perfectly. They were £2. They'll look fab with bright opaques and hot pants when it gets colder.

Phew! Are you still awake? More to follow soon.

Have a fabulous evening!

  1. Hi my dear-I think I must move up to your neck of the woods, if only for the jumble sales-what totally amazing finds!! You're looking gorgeous in the lurex dress and catsuit and just adore the sequin pants too-£1??? Only you can do it!! All your other finds are just fabulous too, very well done! I've got a lurex 70s maxi nearly identical to yours in my selling pile, I'm tempted to try it on and keep it now!! Have a lovely evening xxxx

  2. Vix you look unbelieveable! Those boots are cooooool!! I love the Ferrangamo shoes-I have tiddly tootsies and always seem to find vintage shoes in a larger size, I HAVE however found a Charles Jourdan pair (£2) and a pair of Celine loafers (£1) in a charity shop in just my size! But it rarely happens so I'm glad you picked up those beauties! I really need to start going to some boot sales; you always find the absolute gems! I love the sparkly trousers and I totes appreciate your way of jumbling-'grab it first, examine later!' what a mantra!

Much love as always Miss Fabulous!

  3. Blimey Vix what a haul! Lucky you.

I was off today but had so much housework and ironing to do that I could not venture out! The only bit of outside I saw today was to peg my washing out. Depressing or what!

Looking forward to seeing the rest of the haul.

  4. What a haul, I adore you in that jumpsuit so glam!!!! The travel iron is so cool, I like how it is pretty much just an iron in a bag - no idea what I had imagined it to look like XX

  5. Cor, you're going to turn up to a jumble one day and find your face on posters! "be on the look out for this woman and charge her...ooh, 30p an item!" Love that amazing jumpsuit and the sequinned leggings for rocking a Cher look! x

  10. Dearest Vix,
awesome haul, you really live in the best part of the globe for bagging a bargain...I've never heard of such cheapness, except here on your marvellous blog of course ;)
Regarding the catsuit, it's fantabulous & I wouldn't hold it against you if that's all you'll be wearing from now on...uhm, perhaps I would...no I for one would desperately miss the daily installment of a brand new quirktastic ensemble.
I had a similar experience at last weeks boot sale picking up what I thought was a velvet devore maxi skirt and then realizing it was in fact a pair of palazzo pant when I got back home ;)
Those sequin pants are rather splendiferous too, I think I've got a couple of Ann Green frocks lurking somewhere in my collection of vintage frockery.
Looking fab as per usual my love.

  11. Hi Vix, I'm a big fan of lurex so love that catsuit. I've got a crocheted (not by me, I hasten to add) shawl too which I give to my daughter on those rare occasions at school where they get to dress up as poor Victorian children! I may have to dig it out and actually wear it myself!

    Looking forward to part 2.

  13. FABULOUSNESS AHOY! I love the maxi and the catsuit, I have lurex envy now! The magazine is great, love the print on the dress. I have a big collection of old patterns that were 'send away for' ones from magazines.
The iron was obviously meant to be yours as it has the Indian adaptor.

Looking forward to the rest x

  28. That catsuit is AMAZING! How on earth do you find not only beautiful items but cheap ones!? Our car boot sales are full of high street tat with price tags nearer the original price, I can never understand the sellers logic when theyre left with rails of clothes.

  29. You are the absolute master!!!
I am sharpening my nail already. We are off to Englad for 4 weeks so, apart from scaping the 40º, I will be getting to some charities, and car boot sales, as well as trekking heehheh

  31. So many things look tailor made on you. Lurex and fake fur are a must for me on a night out, so I'm very impressed with your finds. It's great seeing life being breathed back into these vintage delights. The more I see your blog, the more puzzled I am as to why anyone would buy new clothes. For less than the price of a sandwich and can of coke you have bagged some really show stopping outfits. How much fun can you have with a sandwich eh?

  43. I'm sitting here so stunned at all the juicy goodness I've seen, that it's taken me a while to get my concentration back and my fingers working on the keyboard again. Please don't ever, ever, ever take off the catsuit. Well, I know you'll have to at some stage, you know to shower and stuff, but *sigh* it's simply amazing. The pants! Who would EVER have thought they were the real thing from the 70s? Or the sparkly dress? The iron, the coat ... so much goodness, oh and I'm loving your hair to bits! xoxoxoxoxo
