When The Going Gets Tough, The Tough Get Sewing

Vintage 1970's maxi skirt (Local curio shop £3), TopShop vest (Car boot sale 20p), Rough-looking face (Too much India Pale Ale over the last two nights)

My knee's killing me and I can hardly put my foot to the floor. I'm blaming a spurt of domesticity yesterday which meant me using the vacuum cleaner for the first time since we bought it but it's more likely because I walked for three miles last night in a pair of six inch heels, not a great idea for an arthritic forty-something.

Car booting plans out the window I got crafty with a bag of felt I found at a jumble sale creating this Cleopatra-style collar on to which I hand sewed some vintage buttons from my stash.

I also made a crysanthemum hair piece

and a festival headband.

Pain killers? Ice pack? Nah, high heels, lashings of hot pink lippie and a bottle of vino in front of the TV later and I'll be as right as rain in no time.

  8. Stunning work! I love what you've done with those buttons - talk about a statement necklace. Beautiful maxi skirt too. I'm sad to say I hear you on the heels - addict that I am, I suffer the same dodgy knee problem after spending too long in them. I know have to keep flats in my bag to walk long distances!

  9. Phwoar, that button collar is awesome! So glad I semi-converted you with the cable boots - I've been on the hunt for a colourful cable knit maxi dress to confuse you even further, but they have all been in boring black and grey - booo. I'm amazed you manage to keep warm without knitwear, I don't know what I would do without my layers and layers of wool in winter in this country! x

  12. lovely button collar! i'd never have the patience to make a piece like this. i can imagine an unfinished collar, three buttons sewed to a piece of fabric, lying around in my flat for years and years.

  15. Love your collar. Great outfit all round. A nice bottle of wine? Yep, that should definitely do the trick!

There's been no car booty for 3 weeks now, bloody weather: I'm turning to food and wine for comfort ... :0)

  22. An "arthritic forty-something"? Please don't take this the wrong way, I'm not trying to be an "ass kisser" or anything bad, but in a little over a decade I hope to be as fit as the "arthritic forty-something" you! :)
    I love the collar!
    Have a lovely week ;)

  24. Oh dear, I hope the knee gets better soon, Vix! I was in a very similar mood... First I raided the local Oxfam shop and then I attacked the sewing machine. xxx

  25. I definitely think it's probably the domesticity that's done it. Cleaning up and exercise, those are two things that I firmly believe are damaging to the health. lol.

You really made up for your lack of car booting with your crafting didn't you? I love the collar, it must have taken ages? I also love the festival headband. You are a talented Vix.

    Take care
