Friends Old and New

What would we do without our friends? My dear friend Helga's sent me a fabulous parcel packed with vintage treats all the way from New Zealand. One of the many gorgeous things in it was this marvellous 1970's maxi skirt featuring a print familiar to many a 1970's child.

I thought I'd pop it on today as another good friend of mine, Fiona, is dropping in to visit on a rare trip to the Midlands. Fiona and I went to grammar school together and although we left 25 years ago we still keep in touch. Her boyfriend, Roy, and I shared a house back in the mid-1980's. When I tell you that I paid £11 a week rent you could probably imagine the state of it.

Someone I recently become friendly with is a chap who helps out in a family-run second-hand shop in town. It's a curious mix of vintage and contemporary, high street and designer pieces at very keen prices. Miu Miu, Gucci and Prada aren't labels the locals are au fait with but they do a roaring trade in second-hand Primark.

He often saves me interesting things and yesterday he gave me this key pendant because he liked my English Lady coat.

Today's outfit: Vintage Saluki fun fur jacket (£2) and suede lace-up knee boots (£1) both car boot sale buys, Charity-shopped 1980's jersey bodysuit (£1), Vintage leather gloves (Inherited), Maxi skirt and pendant (Free)

Another friend, the elderly lady who organises the monthly Thursday afternoon jumble sale called to invite me to a sale preview tomorrow morning. That means I get to rifle through the goodies before the Black Country grannies get let in. Wish me luck!

Here's hoping you have good luck at the jumble preview tomorrow. Let us know how you get on...

As a girl I had a green gingham school uniform in the seventies with frilly sleeves - the only school uniform I ever liked!

  28. Dear Vix,
Lovely outfit, the maxi skirt ROCKS, well done to Helga for finding that beauty!
I almost bought another vintage 60s Astraka faux-fur coat this morning from my vintage dealer friend but she wanted a tenner for it...granted it was in immaculate condition & had a really nice cut & quirky buttons but £10...n'ah too much for the likes of me ;)
I did bag a couple of frocks for a fiver though, yay...that's more like it :)
I bet the old dears will be giving you daggers as they peep through the jumble sale windows waiting for the doors to swing open...hope you find some lovely stuff for much cheapness!
    Lot's of love,
    Jem
